Písek Synagogue Opens to the Public

Jun 9, 2026

Thanks to a newly signed memorandum between the City of Písek, the Písek Municipal Library, the Jewish Community of Prague, and Matana, the Písek Synagogue is being opened to broader cultural and educational use. In the future, it will serve as a venue for lectures, exhibitions, theatre performances, and other public events.

Planned activities will focus primarily on exploring the history of the Jewish community in Písek and the regional history of Jewish life. Events that contribute to the revitalization of this remarkable historic building are also warmly welcomed.

On 23 August, the synagogue will host the monodrama Alma Rosé, presented by the Památník Antonín Dvořák in Vysoká u Příbrami. The performance tells the powerful story of the violinist Alma Rosé, who was deported to Auschwitz because of her Jewish heritage and later became the conductor of the women’s camp orchestra.
