Restored Příbram
Oct 8, 2026
The Jewish cemetery in Příbram was severely damaged by local vandals during the 1980s and 1990s. In the years that followed, however, thanks in part to significant support from the City of Příbram, most of the damaged tombstones were re-erected.
Nevertheless, several tombstones still remained to be restored in order to complete the restoration.
We are therefore very grateful that this year the City of Příbram provided a grant for the restoration of ten fallen tombstones. The Jewish cemetery is the only surviving monument commemorating the former Jewish community of Příbram, making its preservation exceptionally important.
However, the restoration work is not yet complete. The condition of some of the tombstones continues to 🔍 require attention. Due to the gradual settling of the ⛰ sloping terrain, a number of them are becoming increasingly tilted, and in the coming years there is a risk that they may fall. It is therefore necessary to ensure their stability.
We hope that we will be able to continue our successful cooperation with the City of Příbram in the coming years and gradually ensure the long-term preservation of this important monument.
This autumn, we are also repairing a section of the cemetery 🧱 wall that partially collapsed in the past. At the same time, we have begun documenting the cemetery and its current condition.
