Restoration of the enclosure wall in Nosetín
Mar 3, 2026
Part of the enclosure wall was repaired in the 1990s; however, the remaining section built of rubble stone remained partially collapsed until 2025. The owner, the Jewish Community in Prague, did not have sufficient financial resources to carry out the reconstruction on its own.
Thanks to significant financial support and a grant from the Česko-německého fondu budoucnosti, covering almost half of the total costs of approximately CZK 300,000, it was possible in 2025 to repair the penultimate section of this damaged enclosure wall.
The final section is expected to be restored this year.
The collapsed masonry was dismantled almost down to ground level. The stone recovered from the rubble was cleaned and prepared for reuse. The existing stone foundation was thoroughly cleaned to ensure proper bonding with the newly rebuilt masonry.
The wall was then reconstructed using lime mortar with a small addition of cement to ensure the necessary durability. As the original wall had never been plastered, it was decided that the restored wall would also remain unplastered.
Only the original stone was used as building material. Both the preserved and newly rebuilt sections were finished with a new coping made of flatter original stones.
Mortar with a slightly higher cement content was used for pointing the coping to ensure greater durability and thus extend the lifespan of the entire wall. All work was carried out in consultation with heritage conservation authorities.

The Jewish cemetery is located by the road leading from Květuše to Nosetín, approximately one kilometre southeast of the village. It was founded in the first half of the 18th century, around 1820. Burials also took place during the interwar period, with the last burial reportedly occurring in 1926. Approximately 96 gravestones dating from 1820 have been preserved on the cemetery grounds. Of the former cemetery building, only the perimeter walls remain. The cemetery is freely accessible to the public.
🙏 Thanks to the financial support of the Česko-německého fondu budoucnosti, the Jewish cemetery in Nosetín has, after many decades, been restored to a dignified condition.
