He was born on 5 December 1913 to Oldřich Štědrý, secretary of the Medical Chamber, and his wife Elsa.
Sadly, he died in early childhood at the age of three, on 12 February 1921.
His father, Oldřich Štědrý, was born on 27 July 1870 in Teplýšovice near Benešov to Heřman Štědrý and Žofie, née Gráfová.
His mother, Elsa, née Steiner, was born on 11 November 1885 in Lohovičky near Rokycany to Zikmund Steiner and Klára, née Picková.
Elsa and Oldřich were married on 22 February 1911 in Prague.
Karel had an older sister, Věra, later married Kohn, who was born on 4 May 1912. Věra had a daughter, Hana, who was born on 24 September 1938.
The fate of the entire family was tragic due to the approaching war.
His father, Oldřich, died on 23 September 1943 in Theresienstadt.
His mother, Elsa, was deported from Prague to Theresienstadt on 23 July 1942. On 15 May 1942, she was then sent from Theresienstadt to Auschwitz on Transport Dz, where she died.
Karel’s parents, sister, and niece are all commemorated in memoriam on his gravestone.
