The Synagogue in Nymburk Comes Alive

Feb 19, 2026

Since this year, the former synagogue in Nymburk has been newly utilized by the Boženy and Bohoši Association. The organization plans to use the building primarily for cultural and community events.

The first public event in the former synagogue will take place on March 14. Visitors will learn about the association’s activities, and attention will also be given to Jewish culture and the history of the site.

The building was constructed in 1891–1892, designed by architect Antonín Červený, as a two-story structure with an apse on the eastern side, in the Neo-Romanesque style. It served as a place of worship until the Nazi occupation. In the 1950s, the building was purchased by the District National Committee, which, in 1959–1960, had it converted for a museum exhibition. This reconstruction led to the loss of many original architectural features—the prayer hall was divided by a new floor into two levels, and the corner turrets on the exterior were removed.

Since 2000, the building has been back in the ownership of the Jewish Community in Prague
