Looking Back at 2025
Feb 19, 2026
At the beginning of the new civil year 2026, we would like to 👀 take a look back with you at the events of the past year.
Synagogue Repairs 🕍:
🔵 In Ledeč nad Sázavou, the synagogue roof was repaired thanks to cooperation with the local municipality and financial support from project partners.
🔵 In Batelov, the planning for the complete restoration of the synagogue continued, supported by the Vysočina Region, which has been involved in preparing this complex reconstruction for a long time.
🔵 In Nová Cerekev, the synagogue’s façade and roof were repaired, and a new security system was installed, all with support from the Czech Ministry of Culture.
🔵 In Neveklov, the ceiling and decorative painting were restored, the foundation walls were dehumidified, and floor layers were removed. A significant and surprising moment was the discovery of the original central bimah. This project was made possible thanks to support from the town of Neveklov.
Maintenance, Repairs, and Documentation of Cemeteries 🪦:
🔵 In cooperation with the European Jewish Cemeteries Initiative and the Czech-German Future Fund, boundary walls of Jewish cemeteries were restored or repaired in Nečtiny, Slavkov, Mladá Boleslav, Úsov, Přehořov, Hoštice, and Nosetín.
🔵 With the contribution of the town of Prostějov, the fencing of the Jewish cemetery in Prostějov was completed.
🔵 With support from the Czech Ministry of Culture, the South Bohemian Region, the Vysočina Region, as well as various towns and municipalities, gravestones were restored at multiple sites: Kovářov, Brandýs nad Labem, Dolní Lukavice, Mirotice, Košetice, Černovice, Protivín, Nová Bystřice, Golčův Jeníkov, Polná, Pardubice, Písek, Prudice, Liběšice, Litomyšl, Habry, Rychnov nad Kněžnou, Neznašov, Jindřichův Hradec, Všeruby, Zběšičky, and also at the old Jewish cemetery in Žižkov (Fibichova Street), where original gravestones from the old Josefov cemetery were returned.
🔵 The town of Prostějov also supported the refurbishment of carpentry elements in the ceremonial hall.
🔵 Gradual restoration of individual cemeteries continued, for example in Křinec, significantly aided by a donation from the Heller‑Mautner family.
🔵 Thanks to the Czech-German Future Fund, documentation of Jewish cemeteries continued in Přistoupim, Divišov, Dobruška, Benešov, Košetice, Hostomice, and at the old cemetery in Žižkov.
🔵 At the New Jewish Cemetery in Prague, preparations were made to mark some of the first previously unmarked graves, financially supported in a major way by Pavel Chabr. At the same time, with support from Prague 3, repairs of individual sections of the cemetery continued.
🔵 Part of the photographs and entries on our website were also updated.
🧹 Regular cemetery maintenance remained a given—mowing, pruning, removal of hazardous 🌳 trees, and clearing overgrown ivy.
All these individual successes would not have been possible without cooperation and support, and we sincerely thank everyone involved.
